Marc Munford, VP of Business Development Epilog AI is dedicated to developing powerful and cost-effective vision technologies that assist humans in navigating complex repetitive scenarios. The company’s custom 8K+ imaging technology achieves unmatched visual fidelity and range, combined with cutting-edge AI to handle mission-critical tasks that previously required humans. Their current product, SideCar, is an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with selfdriving capabilities offered as a direct-to-consumer, costeffective aftermarket add-on for cars.
“In the autonomous driving market, most proposed solutions are a long way off and are cost-prohibitive. Users typically have to buy a new car to have the capabilities installed, and the ongoing maintenance and recalibrations are also significant challenges in the self-driving market,” explains Epilog’s VP of business development, Marc Munford. “Contrary to other vendors focusing on multi-sensor fusion, our approach leverages a breakthrough, patented imaging system that fuses multiple sensors into a single integrated vision system, enabling self-driving at much lower complexity and cost points.”
SideCar capitalizes on hardware already built into existing cars, adding advanced vision capability that facilitates self-driving.
Epilog vision systems capture the driving environment at up to an unprecedented 8K quality using a single sensor. A separate inward-facing Driving Monitoring System (DMS) is used to track the driver’s attention and generates appropriate warnings for safety measures as needed.
With SideCar, commuting to work and traveling long distances can become safer and less exhausting. The AI components of Sidecar have been field-tested with over three million miles of operation so far. Epilog’s advanced AI vision systems simply replace the existing cruise control system in a car, extending assisted steering, accelerator, and braking capability to near self-driving levels. Advanced ADAS systems allow the driver to relax, and simply monitor the road ahead while the vehicle does most of the work navigating through common traffic conditions.

With an introductory price under $1,000, Sidecar is highly affordable, certainly compared to the price of a new car with similar capabilities. Aftermarket installation is expected to take less than an hour typically in local car maintenance shops. Sidecar uses over-the-air software upgrades to add newly developed features and upload driving videos. Additional software enhancements to support remote vehicle security, door locking/unlocking, engine start/shutoff and climate control via mobile phones are currently in development. Longer-term, city driving capabilities are being planned, for example, handling traffic signs, stop lights, pedestrians as well as parking assistance are being developed and tested.
Epilog’s non-compromise vision approach sets it apart from the competition by offering the highest-resolution vision solution available at mass-market pricing. Epilog has optimized its vision stack for the automotive industry, as demonstrated in Sidecar. Additional applications addressing developing markets, including process monitoring, queue management as well as remote health monitoring are currently being developed and available for OEM licensing.
