The Rayo’s twin-turbocharged V10 engine, tuned by Underground Racing, delivers a whopping 1900bhp, compared to the ordinary car’s 610bhp, and with a goal top speed of 300mph, 7X has improved the vehicle’s aerodynamics significantly.
FREMONT, CA: The UK’s top engineering concept design and realization company, Envisage Group, has applied its world-class coachbuilding skills to a groundbreaking hypercar project. The Rayo is the newest commission from bespoke vehicle creator 7X Design, and is based on a unique Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 with a host of enhancements aimed at significantly boosting performance and aesthetics. It was given its global unveiling at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court.
7X then enlisted Envisage Group, which assists the whole automotive industry from start-ups to OEMs with vehicle development, to fully engineer Rayos remarkable new body, which has a Cd of just 0.279, a huge improvement over the typical car’s value of 0.39.
David Gomez, Founder, 7X Design, said, “We could not have asked for a better partner than Envisage Group in the realization of the Rayos stunning body. Taking our designs, they have showed enormous skill in the creation of the panels; the fit, paint finish and the overall robustness of the body. The quality is OEM level and I can now look forward to the next stage in the Rayos development: honing its performance and dynamics.”
“We are delighted to have played such a key role in 7X Designs remarkable Rayo. This car is an extremely exciting one-off creation and I am immensely proud of the work of our talented team, who are expert in taking a client’s design and then fully realizing that vision to the highest possible standards. Coachbuilding has long been one of Envisage Groups strengths we have worked with some of the world’s leading brands in the realization of one-off and low-volume runs of vehicles and I believe that trend is only set to grow,” said Tim Strafford, CEO, Envisage Group.
Envisage Group started the process in Coventry by scanning the base vehicle and sub-structure to create a comprehensive 3D model to use as a reference. After that, Envisages’ professional body engineering team collaborated with 7X design to realize 7X’s design vision. Each panel was devised to align with the sub-structure of the basic vehicle without jeopardizing the monocoque’s integrity.
Envisage Group’s low-volume manufacturing division built the new carbon-fiber body and assembled the car in one of its innovative dimensional studios, equipped with 3D measuring technology to guarantee that the actual vehicle matched the design sub-millimeter precision. It was also taken into account if the completed vehicle could be re-certified via the IVA method. After a dry build, Envisage Group’s advanced paint technologies section painted all of the components in Sport Orange before starting the final assembly.
