FREMONT CA: According to a new scientific article published by the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, recycling electric car batteries is more accessible, cheaper, and environmentally friendly.
Recycling and recovery processes for EV batteries and the critical raw metals used in their production are becoming an important area of research as the use of electric vehicles (EVs) grows. To recover the metals, A combination of thermal pretreatment and hydrometallurgy, in which aqueous chemistry is brought into play. Several companies are working on systems using this combination. Still, researchers at the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden discovered that these companies use vastly different temperatures and times in their processes, indicating a comparative study to determine the best thermal treatment and hydrometallurgical process for recycling lithium-ion batteries was urgently needed.
