North American OEM chooses microZone™ for a new high-quality, large display solution in premium and performance vehicles.
FREMONT, CA: Visteon Corporation declares a new business win for its microZone" display technology with a North American OEM. The award is for a multi-display system integrated into a variety of premium and performance vehicles scheduled to debut in 2024. The new venture comes just one year after the technology's public debut at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show.
"Our new microZone solution offers a richer overall viewing experience that cannot be matched today by other technologies," says Qais Sharif, Visteon Global Vice President, Display Product Line Unit. "MicroZone uses proprietary and patent-pending technology to deliver exceptional optical performance while meeting challenging automotive requirements."
MicroZone technology is a first in the industry and represents a novel alternative to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology for automotive applications. Visteon created microZone in response to industry demand for a high-quality display that provides a premium experience while adhering to stringent automotive-specific requirements.
MicroZone provides OEMs with a high-dynamic-range display solution that is more durable, consumes less power, and is less expensive than OLED systems. MicroZone is the first automotive display based on mature LCD technology to achieve superior optical performance without compromising vehicle reliability, having passed rigorous automotive qualification requirements. MicroZone's wide color gamut reproduces a broader range of the visible color spectrum than typical LCD screens, and the contrast ratio is 65-70 times higher than specific LCD screens.
Visteon created microZone to expedite the development and commercialization of more energy-efficient and cost-effective digital display solutions. MicroZone's low power consumption is critical for automakers seeking to reduce the amount of electricity required to operate cockpit systems without sacrificing color contrast, quality, or brightness, particularly in the emerging electric vehicle market.
"Visteon's microZone display technology offers vehicle manufacturers a very good alternative to evaluate in addition to OLED," Sharif says. "By promptly converting this technology into a business win so soon after announcing it, we have demonstrated how quickly Visteon's innovative new product solutions can become available to automakers."
