Recently, a German elevator manufacturer named Thyssen Krupp is developing the world's first rope-less and sideways moving elevator system. Instead of the conventional cabin moving up and down a vertical shaft, the new system contains cabins that can operate on an electromagnetic track. With magnetic levitation principle, the cabins can move up one shaft and descend another shaft, creating a continuous closure. Crucial switches help guide the cars and are installed with carbon-fiber bearings that permit them to change the direction. The new system also needs fewer and smaller shafts when relating to conventional cable-operated elevators, increasing a building's usable area by up to twenty percent.

Most of the automobile manufacturers have invested in hybrid or electric-powered vehicles. Even with the higher cost and limited range, consumers buy EV because they are less expensive to operate and better for the environment. However, the limitations of lithium-ion batteries must be overcome before EV gain significant market share. So, the researchers are looking at ways to enhance battery structure and electrode chemistry for batteries to hold more charge for a longer time.

Additionally, rapid advances in computer technologies have accelerated the design and production of autonomous cars. Safety remains a top concern—most of these vehicles can navigate and monitor the environment on their own, but still require a human driver. Recent research at the University of Cambridge discovered that when driverless cars communicate with each other on the road and drive cooperatively, they create safer driving conditions by sharing obstacles alerts. It also creates openings for other cars that need to switch lanes, improving traffic flow by up to 45 percent.
